AROUND THE FIRM Dear NONE, David Marsh was inducted into The Inner Circle of Advocates earlier this month. The Inner Circle is an invitation-only group of outstanding trial lawyers. To qualify, members must have tried at least 50 personal injury cases and have at least three verdicts in excess of one million dollars or one verdict in excess of ten million dollars. As part of his induction, David spoke to the group about a difficult one-year period of his life when he tried three cases --a trucking case, a medical malpractice case, and a fraud case--all to great results. Mike Beard was invited to speak this month to the Alabama Association of Paralegals. He spoke about product liability law in Alabama today and some of the discovery abuses a litigator is likely to encounter. The paper, "Products Liability Law in Alabama" is available for download on our firm's website. Susan Silvernail spoke at the summer seminar of the trial lawyers' Alabama Association for Justice. She talked about the challenge of maintaining client confidences and work product in the technology age. Susan highlighted a new ethics opinion from the Alabama State Bar on "Mining Metadata". If you are interested in the topic, this paper, "Metadata: What it is and Why You Should Care", is also available for download . Finally, Marsh, Rickard & Bryan was proud to be one of several law firms mentioned in the Birmingham Bar Foundation's summer newsletter as a contributor to the Foundation's Charitable Equipment Program. The firm regularly donates unused office and computer equipment to the Foundation; in turn, the Foundation finds worthy charitable groups who need the equipment. We encourage other law firms to dispose of their unused office items in this way and support the charitable work of the Foundation. © Marsh, Rickard & Bryan, P.C. 2007
