AROUND THE FIRM

Dear NONE,

Derrick Mills of Marsh, Rickard & Bryan will be part of the Birmingham Bar Association's inaugural class of the Future Leaders Forum.

The program involves training and discussion that are designed to help Derrick and 33 other young lawyers become servant-leaders in their own community and help them develop leadership skills in the legal profession.

Derrick Mills

The Future Leaders training began yesterday and will run through May.  Derrick says, "Its rewarding to be around other young lawyers who feel the same sense of obligation to the community".

Congratulations are also owed to Derrick for having been recently chosen by his colleagues to serve as President-Elect of the Magic City Bar Association.  The Magic City Bar has about 200 members.  Its biggest annual project is to fund and award scholarships to minority law students at four area law schools.

Jeff Rickard is serving on the Plaintiff's Steering Committee for the Multi-District Litigation (MDL) in federal court on the Total Body Formula cases.  The cases revolve around allegations that the dietary supplement products marketed as Total Body Formula and Total Body Mega Formula contained dangerously high levels of chromium and selenium.  Several flavors of the Total Body products were recalled in March 2008.  The FDA and the CDC received over 200 reports of users who suffered problems after using the Total Body Fomula, including liver toxicity, hypoglycemia, renal failure, significant hair loss, deformed fingernails, diarrhea, muscle cramps, joint pain and fatigue.

According to Jeff, the Judicial Panel on Multi-district Litigation recently consolidated all Total Body Fomula cases filed in federal court in the Northern District of Alabama for pretrial proceedings.  If you have clients who have taken the products and experienced adverse reactions, please feel free to consult with Jeff about this litigation.
