[GRAPHIC: MRB serves people who have been injured. Here's Dennis' story...]
DENNIS REID: All my life, I've built cars and, you know, worked on them and stuff like that, restored them. And now then I can't really do it because I can't pick anything up. It's depressed me. I miss it.
ROGER LUCAS: When Dennis got hurt at work, he lost his regular paycheck. But more important to him, he lost a really active and busy lifestyle. Dennis got knocked off of a truck trailer by a careless forklift operator. And he hurt his back when he fell to the payment. He ended up having two back surgeries.
DENNIS REID: I can't get comfortable. I sit awhile. I stand awhile. I walk awhile. It's--I can't stay in one position. It's just--it's miserable.
ROGER LUCAS: In representing Dennis, we had to handle several complicated issues, the main one being that several years before the fall, Dennis had surgery in the same area of the back as he injured in the fall. So we got with several of Dennis's friends and his wife to talk about all the active things they did together right up until the time of the fall, things Dennis couldn't do any longer after the fall.
DENNIS REID: I love her. I mean, you know, we still enjoy each other's company. I mean, but we can't do the fun things that we used to, going places, riding motorcycles, riding in boats. Anything that bounces, I can't handle.
MS. REID: You adjust. But it's never an easy process when you know that you could be doing these other things. And now you can't. So it kind of hurts, bothers you. Everything changed.
ROGER LUCAS: Dennis was a hard-working guy. But he liked to play hard, too. So you can see just how tough it was for Dennis to accept these changes. And I think it's clear it affected his family, too. So I was really glad we were able to help him. We got his case settled and took care of his future. And I'm really proud of the result.
