Car accident fire fears lead to new recalls for 2013 Ford Escape

Alabama owners of 2013 Ford Escapes may be included in a recall over the crossover vehicles' engines. The concern over the potential for car accidents caused by fires in the Escape's 1.6-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine led the automaker to announce the recall of 140,000 of the vehicles in the United States. Another 21,000 Escapes were being recalled in other export markets including Canada, according to a source at Ford.

Alabama man charged with manslaughter in fatal wreck

A man has been charged with four counts of manslaughter in connection with a July 14 accident that killed four people. The driver was also charged with obstructing governmental operations and making a false report. He was charged with lying about the incident because his account of the car accident did not correspond with the evidence uncovered in the police investigation.

Lives and money may be saved by self-driven vehicles

The potential that computer-driven cars have to save the lives of many in Alabama and across the county may be exciting news for those who have recently been injured in a car accident. According to government research, driver error is a factor in up to 90 percent of all accidents. In addition, over 40 percent of fatal car accidents result from the consumption of alcohol, drugs, distraction or fatigue. Self-driven cars may one day bring an end to fatigue and alcohol-related crashes.

Brain injuries cause hidden damage

While automobile accidents and other events very often cause obvious injuries, such as lacerations and broken bones, they can also result in less visible injuries that may be even more damaging. Traumatic brain injury, also called TBI, can cause amnesia, headaches, trouble with balance and similar symptoms. However, TBI can also lead more subtle problems, particularly changes in personality. Those who suffer these changes might not notice them until a little later on in the healing process, but they can cause great distress and make returning to pre-accident life much more difficult.

Multiple-vehicle accident leaves two dead

A 26-year-old pregnant Alabama woman and a 66-year-old man were killed in a multiple vehicle accident. According to the report, the man died at the scene of the accident and the woman was transported to a nearby hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries. The woman's unborn child also did not survive.

Drowsy driving may be a factor in many car accidents

Alabama drivers should be aware of the risks of operating a vehicle while fatigued. One driver, who was on the way to surprise her friend in the middle of the night, learned this lesson the hard way when she crashed her vehicle after falling asleep at the wheel for just a couple seconds.
