Families of two University of Alabama in Huntsville professors who were killed in the 2010 campus shootings are awaiting a judge's decision regarding their case. A Madison County judge has a motion to dismiss in front of her in the wrongful death case. The defendant is the individual who was the provost at the time of the shootings.

Alabama woman sues after fatal apartment fire

An Alabama woman recently filed a lawsuit against her apartment complex in addition to two smoke detector manufacturers alleging liability for her husband's death in a recent apartment fire. According to the lawsuit filed in a United States District Court in Birmingham, the apartment smoke detector failed to sound during a fire that killed her 59-year-old husband.

Victim of Alabama head-on collision dies

A third victim of a Nov. 2 accident on Highway 27, a 7-year-old boy, has died, according to reports. According to police at the scene, the driver at fault may have been under the influence of alcohol. The driver, who was among the deceased, had not been wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. Police have launched an investigation to determine all of the factors that led to the collision.

Two men killed in Alabama accident

Two men were killed in a car wreck in Huntsville after a man in a white BMW hit their vehicle head-on early in the morning on Oct. 18. According to the report, the vehicles were traveling on Martin Road near Zierdt at the time of the accident. At Jamar Circle, the BMW driver swerved into the oncoming lane in an effort to avoid hitting an animal that had run into the road when he hit a black Ford.

Helicopter test flight ends in fatal crash

Four Coast Guard officers were killed during a helicopter training flight in Alabama. While operating the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter over Mobile Bay, all four of the crew members aboard lost their lives. Following the helicopter crash, an investigation of the accident concluded that misconduct was not a factor. It is unclear whether any of the family members of the deceased men plan to file a wrongful death claim.

Court date set in fatal Alabama airport accident case

A court date has been set for a high profile wrongful death trial that will take place in Birmingham. The trial will begin on November 3, 2014, almost 18 months after the accident that led to the death of a child on March 22, 2013.

Mother alleges dangerous football practices cost son his life

Alabama football fans and safety advocates are watching as the mother of an NCAA college football player has filed a lawsuit against the organization and a helmet company contending that her son died from brain injuries because his coaches continued to enforce allegedly dangerous drills. The wrongful death lawsuit also names two coaches and a trainer, although his school was not named in the lawsuit. The 22-year-old all-conference player died on Aug. 22, 2011.

Investigators look into deadly crash

When a UPS plane crashed in Alabama and two pilots lost their lives, federal authorities couldn't find any issues with the jet's controls. A National Transportation Safety Board member reported that the controls seemed to be working properly before the wrongful death.
