Man charged in bus accident that left several injured

A 21-year-old Alabama man was charged with 21 counts of third-degree assault and 21 more of reckless endangerment after being accused of causing an accident in November 2012 that left a Franklin County school bus overturned. The bus was carrying 29 students at the time of the accident, many of whom were injured as a result.

Wrongful death suit on UAH shootings pending

Families of two University of Alabama in Huntsville professors who were killed in the 2010 campus shootings are awaiting a judge's decision regarding their case. A Madison County judge has a motion to dismiss in front of her in the wrongful death case. The defendant is the individual who was the provost at the time of the shootings.

Alabama woman sues after fatal apartment fire

An Alabama woman recently filed a lawsuit against her apartment complex in addition to two smoke detector manufacturers alleging liability for her husband's death in a recent apartment fire. According to the lawsuit filed in a United States District Court in Birmingham, the apartment smoke detector failed to sound during a fire that killed her 59-year-old husband.

Minivans recalled for suspension defects, risk of car accidents

A recall of 80,000 2006 to 2012 Kia Sedonas has prompted the need for a December recall of vehicles by automaker Hyundai. Alabama car owners may be dismayed at being left out of this geographic recall, which concerns the potential failure of the steering system. According to Hyundai's report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Kia was the manufacturer of the 2007 to 2008 Entourage. The recall concerns around 15,500 Entourages with the suspected problem.

2,500 Nissan vehicles recalled

Nissan owners in Alabama may soon hear about the recall of 2,529 NV200 vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced that models NV200 built between Feb. 6, 2013 and Aug. 2, 2013 may suffer from defects in their battery terminals that could cause the engine to stall unexpectedly. In an effort to avoid any potential car accidents, Nissan has requested that dealerships reposition wiring around the terminals and apply a protective covering prior to the upcoming recall expected sometime before Christmas.

Car accident fire fears lead to new recalls for 2013 Ford Escape

Alabama owners of 2013 Ford Escapes may be included in a recall over the crossover vehicles' engines. The concern over the potential for car accidents caused by fires in the Escape's 1.6-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine led the automaker to announce the recall of 140,000 of the vehicles in the United States. Another 21,000 Escapes were being recalled in other export markets including Canada, according to a source at Ford.

Man faces DUI charges in car accident that left 2 injured

A 25-year-old man was charged in Biloxi, Alabama, with two counts of DUI causing injury after being taken into police custody on Nov. 20. According to the report, the man allegedly caused a car accident on Nov. 17 at U.S. 90 and Veterans Avenue that involved four vehicles.

Alabama man charged with manslaughter in fatal wreck

A man has been charged with four counts of manslaughter in connection with a July 14 accident that killed four people. The driver was also charged with obstructing governmental operations and making a false report. He was charged with lying about the incident because his account of the car accident did not correspond with the evidence uncovered in the police investigation.

Victim of Alabama head-on collision dies

A third victim of a Nov. 2 accident on Highway 27, a 7-year-old boy, has died, according to reports. According to police at the scene, the driver at fault may have been under the influence of alcohol. The driver, who was among the deceased, had not been wearing a seat belt when the crash occurred. Police have launched an investigation to determine all of the factors that led to the collision.

Two men killed in Alabama accident

Two men were killed in a car wreck in Huntsville after a man in a white BMW hit their vehicle head-on early in the morning on Oct. 18. According to the report, the vehicles were traveling on Martin Road near Zierdt at the time of the accident. At Jamar Circle, the BMW driver swerved into the oncoming lane in an effort to avoid hitting an animal that had run into the road when he hit a black Ford.
