With more people on the roads during the holidays, police in Alabama and states across the country may see an increase in the number of traffic accidents and deaths on the road. Statistics from the National Safety Council show that more car accidents happen during Christmas, New Year's, Labor, Thanksgiving, Memorial and Independence Day than other holidays. Many of these traffic accidents involve alcohol, especially during holidays such as New Year's and Independence Day.
Alabama State Police took an Ashford woman into custody on charges of first degree assault and driving under the influence stemming from a car crash in which a passenger was seriously injured. The driver was detained in the Houston County Jail on $60,000 bail.
A 25-year-old man was charged in Biloxi, Alabama, with two counts of DUI causing injury after being taken into police custody on Nov. 20. According to the report, the man allegedly caused a car accident on Nov. 17 at U.S. 90 and Veterans Avenue that involved four vehicles.
