Volvo has issued a recall of nearly 145,000 S60 sedans and V60 wagons from the model years 2011 through 2017. Faulty parts inside the door latch mechanism may fail, causing even tightly-closed doors to open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion.
The problem has reportedly occurred on sharp turns and roundabouts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Hot weather may be the trigger that causes the door latches to fail, but that does not mean you are safe until spring. If you own one of these vehicles, you can expect Volvo to contact you by Jan. 24, 2020, and instruct you to go to a Volvo dealer for a repair. Dealers will replace the latches in all four doors free of charge.

The affected vehicles were manufactured between June 2, 2010, and Dec. 31, 2016. The affected vehicles include:
- S60 sedans
- S60 Inscription sedans
- S60 Cross Country sedans
- V60 wagons
- V60 Cross Country wagons

You can also check if your vehicle is affected by entering your vehicle identification number (VIN) into NHTSA’s safety issues & recalls website. The VIN, which is 17 characters long, appears in several places on your vehicle, including at the base of the windshield on the driver’s side and inside the driver’s side door.
