Alabama State Police took an Ashford woman into custody on charges of first degree assault and driving under the influence stemming from a car crash in which a passenger was seriously injured. The driver was detained in the Houston County Jail on $60,000 bail.
The Dec. 13 incident happened on Houston County Road 75 in Ashford when the 40-year-old woman who was driving an Isuzu Rodeo was involved in a single-vehicle crash that caused serious injury to a passenger, according to an Alabama state trooper. The accident victim suffered neck and back injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
Alcohol is suspected to have contributed to the crash, according to the state trooper. The suspected drunk driver also has two prior felony theft convictions, according to records.
