Motor vehicle crashes often result in those involved sustaining injuries. Often the impact of the car accident is a main contributing factor to common car accident injuries such as head and neck trauma, broken bones and contusions. Other times, objects either in the cab of a car or truck or materials being transported may contribute to serious or even fatal injuries.
A 62-year-old Alabama man recently died when the truck in which he was a passenger was involved in a head-on collision. The truck, driven by the 62-year-old man’s brother-in-law, was traveling along Country Road 39 when it collided head-on with a car driven by an 18-year-old man.
Both the 18-year-old driver and driver of the truck sustained serious injuries. Both drivers were transported to UAB Hospital in Birmingham where they were listed as being in critical condition. Sadly, the 62-year-old man who was a passenger in the truck died at the accident scene as a result of his injuries.
While police continue to investigate the accident, they believe the man was crushed by the load of heavy stone the truck was hauling.
This accident serves as an important reminder of the many potential dangers involved in a car or truck accident. Serious injuries can occur not only as a result of the force of the actual collision, but also from projectile objects or improperly restrained loads.
While it’s unclear from the initial police report who was at fault, either part may chose to file a personal injury lawsuit. If the driver of the car was negligent in causing the fatal accident, the 62-year-old man’s family may also chose to bring a wrongful death lawsuit.
