A motorist has been charged for his possible connection to a hit and run accident that resulted in the death of a motorcyclist in Priceville, Ala. Local police reported that a motorcycle was struck by an 18-wheel semi-trailer near the Pilot Travel Center on Alabama 67 just west of Interstate 65 at about 4:45 a.m. on June 26
After initially being struck, the motorcycle became wedged under the truck. The driver of the motorcycle was then ejected and thrown across the highway where he was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, a resident of Decatur, Ga., reportedly fled. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver who initially fled the scene, later returned and talked to police. He was subsequently arrested and charged with a hit and run.
According to news reports, the driver’s case will likely be referred to the district attorney, and a grand jury could possibly bring more charges. The driver of the truck was unhurt, and no charges against him have yet been reported.
Family members who have suffered the loss of a loved one may have the legal right to file a lawsuit for wrongful death.
