According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 24 people worldwide reported suffering chemical burns or skin irritation from their liquid glitter iPhone cases. Of these 24 people, 19 are from the U.S.
If the phone case breaks or develops cracks, the liquid inside can leak and cause injuries where it touches the skin. The injuries that have been reported at this point range from mild skin irritation and blisters to swelling and chemical burns that leave people permanently scarred.
How do you know if your iPhone case is dangerous?
There are multiple companies that manufacture these types of phone cases. So far, MixBin Electronics has recalled their iPhone liquid glitter cases sold at GetMixBin.com, Victoria’s Secret, Amazon.com, Nordstrom Rack, Henri Bendel and Tory Burch. Whether similar cases made by other manufacturers are also dangerous appears to depend on the type of liquid they use.
If you have a liquid glitter iPhone case from MixBin, check here to see if your phone is on the recall list. People who find their case on the list should take it off of their phone immediately and register for a refund. You should also make sure you keep the case away from children and pets.
