A hayride driving down a county road in Alabama was hit by a man driving a truck on Oct. 11. The accident resulted in six teens being sent to the hospital, including a 13-year-old girl who was airlifted to UAB Hospital. The haunted hayride was hit around 7:15pm and was carrying 20 teens.
One victim explained that he saw the truck coming up on the trailer at a high speed and thought it was part of the ride to scare the teens. However, when the truck was within 14 feet, he noticed that it was not going to stop. The truck hit the back of the trailer, knocking one passenger off the benches before proceeding to hit another car. The truck then hit the trailer a second time, knocking down additional passengers.
Other victims reported the man then tried to flee the scene in his car, but two teens went after him. One teen was able to take the keys from the driver, who explained that he hadn’t seen the hayride’s lights, although the trailer had multiple reflectors around it and a large yellow light on the rear. The accident did not result in any major injuries. The case is still being investigated by Alabama State Troopers, and no charges have yet been filed.
