Land Rover has announced a recall of select Range Rover vehicles after discovering an issue with one of the model’s airbags. It is estimated that there are just less than 4,000 affected vehicles in the U.S. Press releases did not indicate how Range Rover became aware of the issue, nor did it indicate if anyone had been injured or if any of the luxury vehicles sustained damage due the manufacturing defect. This may be of concern to Alabama owners of the affected Range Rover vehicles.
The issue has to do with the Supplemental Restraint System in some of the vehicles. In affected vehicles, an error in the housing for the SRS connector means that the side airbags can become nonfunctional and fail to deploy in the event of a car accident. Specifically, the housing for the connector has insufficient clearance. Drivers and front-seat passengers are the most likely to be affected in the event of a crash.
Land Rover began notifying owners of affected vehicles of the possible defect in January. It is offering repairs free of charge, and owners just need to take their vehicles to local dealerships and have the connector housing modified so that the airbags remain functional.
Victims of car accidents that were caused by the negligence of someone else, whether another driver or a manufacturer of a defective car part, may have the option of seeking compensation for their injuries. Such compensation might cover medical bills, lost wages and vehicle repair costs. If any injuries from an accident were made worse by a vehicle defect, the vehicle manufacturer might be held financially responsible for the increased expenses through the filing of a personal injury claim.
