Ford recently announced that they are recalling more than 1.3 million vehicles in the U.S. due to a defect in steering wheels. The problem is that bolts in the steering wheel can become loose. When this happens, the steering wheel may come apart from the steering column, leaving drivers with no control of the car.
The affected vehicles are 2014-2018 Ford Fusions and Lincoln MKZs. If you have one of these vehicles, you can get the defect repaired at Ford dealerships. The fix involves removing the existing bolts and replacing them with longer bolts and a nylon patch.
Additional Ford recall
Approximately 6,000 vehicles are also being recalled due to another defect. In this recall, there is a fire risk from a clutch pressure plate that may break. The recall involves the following vehicles:
- 2013-2016 Ford Focus vehicles with 1.0 liter Fox GTDI engines and B6 manual transmissions
- 2013-2015 Ford Fusion vehicles with 1.6 liter Sigma GTDI engines and B6 manual transmissions
Regardless of which defect your vehicle may have, you should seek repairs as soon as possible. When you get a recall notice, be sure to make an appointment right away. There is no cost for the repair.
