A 26-year-old pregnant Alabama woman and a 66-year-old man were killed in a multiple vehicle accident. According to the report, the man died at the scene of the accident and the woman was transported to a nearby hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries. The woman’s unborn child also did not survive.
A number of witnesses saw the Sept. 25 high-speed accident take place. At about 4 p.m., a westbound Toyota driven by the 66-year-old man in the right lane apparently moved into the left lane on Interstate 565 where it swiped a witness’s car. The Toyota then drove across the median and into oncoming traffic, where it grazed the wheels of a semi-truck as it hit the pregnant woman’s vehicle head-on. The woman had to be cut out of her vehicle.
On Sept. 26, the investigation was still taking place. Authorities planned to perform a toxicology test on the man who reportedly caused the accident. The authorities stated that he may have suffered a medical problem before the wreck.
