Congratulations to Marsh Rickard & Bryan attorneys Derrick Mills and Jane Mauzy on getting a great result for their injured client at trial this week. A Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court jury returned a $500,000 verdict today in favor of a 42-year-old Tuscaloosa man who was injured while on the job.
In August 2012, our client was working as a driver for a trucking company. After successfully transporting a load to an assembly plant, our client opened the trailer doors and was struck by multiple heavy boxes of auto parts. The case was about how the boxes were loaded into the trailer.
Our client suffered neck and back injuries; he had to undergo multiple surgeries. He could not go back to work as a truck driver.
Derrick says he told the jury that the company that loaded the boxes violated their own safety policies, and then tried to blame our client in the courtroom for their mistake. Derrick fought for his client even when the company’s defense strategy was to call our client a liar.
The case tried three and a half days. Derrick and Jane are thankful to the members of the jury for reaching a just result.
